igus® ibow® allows quick and easy angling of cable connectors after fitting09/08/2017

In just a few steps, the new igus ibow, from the motion plastics specialist igus, can be used to change a straight connector to an angled one in seconds. To ensure operational reliability, the connector need not be removed from the cable - slide it on, bend the cable, fix and it’s ready to use.

Video of the Week – How to manage cables on robotic systems more reliably09/08/2017

This week Justin Leonard, the-chain director at igus, examines the issues that can occur with traditional corrugated tube, cable and hose management systems used on robots and explains how they can be overcome by replacing them with energy chains.

Rise in demand drives price down for 3D printed plastic parts07/08/2017

Motion plastics specialist igus is pleased to announce that it has reduced the base price of its iglidur i3 PL selective laser sintering (SLS) material by 30%, with a corresponding decrease in printed part price. Since its introduction a year ago, there has been a general rise in volume of the material due to overall demand.

Maintenance-free on the road: modular camper expansion with igus linear technology02/08/2017

Long service life, maintenance-free and robust: these are the requirements for components used in the interior construction of high-quality camping vehicles. They fit like a glove into the interior and must last for at least 15 years without inspections or maintenance. This also applies to removable kitchens or office systems that provide comfort and practicality to make the vehicle fit for a holiday or business meeting. Here components of the drylin W linear system are at your service with smooth and easy adjustments.

Video of the Week – How to install a safe shore power supply02/08/2017

Port authorities are looking into new ways to supply ships with shore power, as opposed to using their diesel-driven generators, in a bid to reduce CO2 emissions. In this week’s video, igus introduces an innovative modular cable feed system. Easily installed at defined mooring points, the system enables the safe supply of energy, thanks to an extendable energy chain and highly flexible chainflex cables – also available DNV GL certified.

Video of the Week – How we put our iglidur® materials through their paces26/07/2017

In this week’s video we go sightseeing around the world’s largest test lab for triboplastics at the igus headquarters in Cologne, Germany.

10 Gbit/s at your fingertips: igus® d-rover provides RTG cranes with high-speed data25/07/2017

Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes are an essential part of port facilities around the world. With the d-rover data transmission system, igus provides a solution to supply data to these cranes quickly and safely – for travels of over 800 metres.

Video of the Week – How to avoid guide wear on drive chains19/07/2017

Drives chains transmit mechanical power from one place to another a common industrial application is a conveyor. For these long runs, chain guides are used that are often made of Polypropylene or a similar low cost material. Wear problems that occur on these moving applications can be rectified quickly by means of stock plate made from high performance engineering plastics, such as iglidur.

New generation of smart plastics from igus® adds more intelligence for greater plant availability17/07/2017

Predictive maintenance plays a key role in Industry 4.0 and the factory of tomorrow. Supporting this future, igus has added more sensors and monitoring modules to its smart plastics family for more intelligence - warning of potential failure in good time before unplanned and costly downtimes occur.

Video of the Week – How our blue guide trough system can save time and money12/07/2017

The guidelite plus EG is an all-plastic guide trough system for energy chains, developed specifically for use in chemically corrosive environments, such as those found in galvanising plants and fertiliser production and handling facilities. The guitelite plus EG is significantly cheaper than high-grade stainless steel, which is the traditional material of choice in these aggressive environments.

antibacterial iglidur® W160 tribo-tape for medical and laboratory equipment11/07/2017

With the white tribo-tape made of iglidur W160, igus has extended its range of liners with an antibacterial and UV stable material. Therefore surfaces where areas wear in hygiene-sensitive applications, such as in medical and laboratory equipment, can be lined quickly and easily.

igus® gives articulated arm to the University of Southampton06/07/2017

As part of its YES (Young Engineers Support) programme, igus has backed many universities for several years with free engineering advice and products – supporting university teams participating in the Eurobot challenge is one such programme. The winning team of the Eurobot UK final are from the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton, which received a robolink articulated robotic arm from igus.

Video of the Week – How robust is a stainless steel leadscrew module?05/07/2017

This week’s video is well worth the watch… as we see a new product being set on fire. igus new stainless steel option to its drylin SHT range of leadscrew modules, made entirely of 304 grade stainless steel. To ascertain how robust this rugged module is, a madcap engineer at the company’s German headquarters in Cologne decided it would be fun to put the drylin SHT-ES through its paces.

New generation of low-noise energy chains from igus® for extreme dynamics03/07/2017

For applications where an extremely low-noise energy chain, with very high dynamics or very low abrasion, is required, igus has developed the E6.1 series. Suitable for applications with speeds of up to 20 m/s, these chains are now available in new sizes with larger inner heights of up to 62mm.
