What is a SCARA robot?
A SCARA robot is an industrial robot which was designed for horizontal movement combined with a Z axis stroke movement. These robots are ideal with applications such as pick and place, small part assemblies, packaging lines, and material handling. As with a lot of automation, these low cost SCARA robots offer fast cycles, repeatability and are a relatively small footprint.
The igus SCARA robot is also a cost effective robot, offering a quick return on investment for companies.
These SCARA robots are not built for huge industrial plants, more small production lines that are looking for a repetitive task to be done automatically.

- The footprint, the SCARA footprint is substantially smaller than the cartesian.
- The types of tasks and applications they perform, the SCARA is more suited to pick and place and part insertion whereas the cartesian is more suited to large area dispensing and positioning.
- SCARA are renowned for fast repetitive tasks and Cartesian are optimised for more distance as opposed to speed.
Our SCARA robots start from £2300 for a 3 DOF version and range up to £7400 for a 4 DOF with cladding.
