This so-called spider magnifier got its name from its spider-leg-like design. The idea behind the application is to install a tablet at the top of a linear rail so that the screen is close to the user's eye. The tablet itself works like a magnifying glass, enlarging text books underneath many times over, for example, thus enabling people with visual impairments to read and write. A special feature of the frame is that it weighs just 1.6 kg. 
The central element of the magnifier is a linear guide, which enables the tablet to be moved and swivelled smoothly. However, the main focus of the guidance was also on keeping the weight of the device as low as possible while at the same time ensuring a high level of stability.

Previous linear guide solutions caused problems due to a high failure rate caused by increased rail jamming. The manufacturer therefore opted for drylin® -linear guide, which can easily fulfil the desired specifications of the enlarger. The linear bearing combines low weight with high stability and reliability, while at the same time enabling smooth screen guidance at all times. It is completely lubrication-free and yet wear-resistant, so that no maintenance is required. The guidance is also resistant to scratches and mechanical damage. The choice of drylin®-bearing for the product range proved to be the right decision for the customer: Whilst the system was able to gain in reliability, the aesthetics and low weight of the application were retained at the same time.
