Form- Fill- and Closing Machines

Typical materials and products

Thermoform packaging plant

In thermoforming, a lower film is placed in a tray mould, the product is inserted and sealed with a top film. Until the finished sealed product is available, the packaging process runs through several stations, which start at the lower film unwinding station and end at the cutting station.

Overview

Bearing systems, lead screws or energy chains are used at various stations of a thermoform packaging line. Using the PowerPak PLUS from GEA Food Solutions as an example, you can see the different products that have been used in these sections.
1. Lower film unwinding
2. Film guide
3. Tensioning system
4. Web edge control
5. Filling station
6. Thermoforming and sealing station
7. Labelling station

Forming, filling and sealing machines With the new PowerPak PLUS series of thermoforming systems, GEA meets the requirements of demanding customers in the food packaging industry.
Lower film unwinding

1. Lower film unwinding

A sliding door system serves as a safety enclosure for the lower film unwinding. It operates on drylin W linear systems, which can also be used without problems in aggressive cleaning processes.
Film guide

2. Film guide

A sliding door is also used at the level of the film guide. 3 metres wide, it allows access to the machine. The drylin W linear systems also used here manage without active lubrication.
Tensioning system

3. Tensioning system

This adjustable guide roller is used to maintain the film tension. The linear retraction during the film change is undertaken by drylin JUM linear plain bearings, iglidur plain bearings prevent the electrostatic charging of the film. The bearing of the guide rollers themselves is ensured by xiros polymer ball bearing.
Web edge control

4. Web edge control

Sensors monitor the packaging process in the longitudinal direction. In case of irregularities, they transmit this information to a DC actuator, which drives a drylin trapezoidal lead screw and axially displaces the roller.
Filling station

5. Filling station

igubal EGZM double joint and drylin N low-profile rails are used to adjust the gripper.
Thermoforming and sealing station

6. Thermoforming and sealing station

Under the influence of pressure and heat, the lower film gets its shape. The tools for this are adjusted on lifting stations via drylin liners and iglidur JUCM linear clip bearings. The axes at the station are supported in iglidur J and Z plain bearings.
Labelling stations

7. Labelling station

For the energy and signal supply of the labelling dispenser of the packaging system, the solution was found in our product range of energy chains.
Cutting station

8. Cutting station

drylin R shaft guides RJUM-02-25 are used in the cutting tool.

Further customer application examples

Plain bearings for packaging machinery

Tribo-optimised polymer bearings for thermo-forming packaging machinery

Horizontal forming, filling and sealing machines

On these horizontal forming, filling and sealing machines, the total freedom from maintenance over the machines' entire life cycle was particularly important for the customer.
