How can you prevent dirt ingress in plain bearings in the agricultural industry? Can bearings really help reduce common failures within the industry whilst saving you money? Seems like a big ask however not impossible! The plain bearings with felt seals have been designed for dirty and dusty environments, created for construction machinery and agricultural machinery with a focus of maintaining the continuous service life of the bearings without maintenance and lubrication.
Our bearings offer 50x longer service life than conventional bearings in these tough applications and have been thoroughly tested in the test laboratory.
| Feature | Standard plain bearing | Felt seal plain bearing |
|---|---|---|
| Lubrication | Sometimes required | Not required |
| Shaft protection | Moderate | Good |
| Dirt protection | Low | High |
| Intervals for maintenance | Short | Long |
| Risk of downtime | High | Low |
Why have we developed these felt deal range of bearings?
Our plain bearings are generally insensitive to dirt and dust due to their lubrication-free dry operation. This is due to the fact that in most applications the dirt does not remain in the bearing position for long but can trickle through.
However, in applications with very high dirt loads, such as construction machinery or agricultural equipment, this effect is no longer sufficient. Here, permanent relubrication often ensures that the dirt is permanently pushed out of the bearing point.
With the new plain bearing range with felt seals, you can dispense with lubrication and still keep dirt and dust safely out of the bearing point. You save money by eliminating lubrication points, complex lubrication grooves and complex tracking systems and benefit from the advantages of iglidur® plain bearing materials.
All iglidur® plain bearing materials are made up of three components: Base polymers, fibres and fillers, solid lubricants, which make bearings made of of these materials maintenance- and lubrication-free. Since not one universal material can fulfil all tasks equally well, there are different iglidur® materials. The composition of the three components and the field of application is different for each one.
The maximum application temperature is +80 degrees Celsius and goes down to -30 degrees. °C°C
Depending on the application parameters will depend on the answer but in most situations our plain bearings can withstand similar loads and speeds to bronze bearings.
As with all the igus bearings these bearings do not need greasing at all
The wool felt swells on contact with moisture but does not dissolve. The felt seal will come away from the rest of the bearing on contact with water
